I wanted kids when I was a child so I could give them everything I didn’t have since I grew up in an abusive, dysfunctional family. Now that I’ve lived life a little more and realized how fucked up but also beautiful life is, I refuse to let a childish experience this. Some people are fortunate to not experience severe trauma and hardship but that’s too rare for me to risk. even though I’m doing the work to be a healthier version of myself which would benefit my kid, I can’t protect them from everything. Also finding a decent partner is already extremely difficult in my experience and I owe my kid a great father that cares about them just as much as i do. The thought of things like school shootings, molestation, narcissistic and psychotic people that would influence them, domestically violent boyfriends or girlfriends, sickness, drugs, jail and sooo many other things that could happen to my kid that would ruin me. There’s a security knowing that you’re not making a person that didn’t ask to be here and letting them suffer. My whole life I hated my mom for giving birth to me because of how much trauma she caused me. I’m also stubbornly independent and want my identity to be my own. I don’t want to be someone’s mom for the rest of my life. I love and adore my non existent babies.

I do recommend the experience of living! It’s hell of a ride, there’s sooo much to experience! HOWEVER, I find bring a life into this existence too much of a pressure! I lost my father in my early 20s, my mom is aging, I have a brother with a mental disability AND I struggle with mental illness. My biggest fear is to feel like I can’t hold it together. Sometimes life feels so overwhelming, why should I add to it?

I very much check the introverted box, and also had a troubled relationship with my father. He had a real "scarcity" mentality and treated children too much as financial liabilities. His job was relatively well-paid but in a very famous-brand company that was trying to get major extra hours from salaried employees without regard to families or anything like that. The message I took away was to keep this sort of cycle from repeating and to be super-cautious about commitments taken on. Very defensive and preventative.

At first it was my job always being threatened. Now it's advancing age and a feeling the ship has sailed, plus climate change. Someone born today could live to 2100 or 2105, but those last 40 or so years are not looking good. There's an excellent chance of accelerated sea level rise from losing the Thwaites Glacier, and a computer model predicted the shutdown of AMOC (the gulf stream) between 2037 and 2064. We'll also have much worse refugee crises and effects on food supply.

In the end we weigh up the pros and cons and make the decision that suits us. Unless you're just careless. 😄 Everyone does things for selfish reasons, whether that's staying solo or becoming a parent.

Not having kids seems like a net positive overall even if you do wake up one day and are like damn I wish I would’ve had kids. You still lived a good most of your adult life happier without them.

It’s like anything in life, there’s benefits and negative aspects of having children and not having children. It’s 6 of one and half dozen of the other. The fact is other then in the moments of you doing it it makes absolutely no difference in life what we do or don’t do. I strongly believe my life is headed to the spot where I’m going to inevitably drop 💀 and that’s it.

You have t ask yourself if you’d recommend this experience because you haven’t experienced how bad it truly gets depending on who you are. For the simple fact that you don’t get to choose who you are and in what conditions you’re born in and raised under, this life shouldn’t be recommended or imposed on anyone. Imagine being born poor and disabled. You obviously couldn’t recommend life when you think about cases like that

I'm 50 glad I haven't had kids . I won't not of been able to afford them I'm also to selfish.working long hours to give the kids what they need but not having the time to spend with them what do you sacrifice not giving them what they need in the sense of education good clothes to give them some extra time it is a hard toss-up so I think I was better off not having them

I give this life a 4/10. I’ve had great moments sure and I’ve had awful moments too, but what makes me give life such a low score is that the vast majority is just dull forgettable routine. It’s that copy paste void of the filler BS that constitutes so much of life that makes me have such a low opinion of it. At least in truly bad moments in life there’s still passion and investment, but in routine there’s just…nothing. No one watches a TV show for seeing characters engage in just generic routine after all.

Later down the road if I change my mind I can still have them or ADOPT which I see as public service and not the narcisistic way of having children just beacuse.

I think, growing up, I always just assumed I'd have kids. Then my first crush at 12-years-old was on a dude. And I realized I was gay. I get to be the fun gay uncle to nieces and nephews, and that's plenty. I'm happy with that. And I can focus on my own life and keep things in order without stressing about the responsibilities of raising a child in this modern world.

So, in short: You're not ready to take responsibility

The human experience is definitely a painful one with gifts of a wonderful experience given now and then. I love my children. Life is better than e times maybe, but I don’t want pain to given anyone to my loved ones

My adult son has been saying he doesn’t want children since he was in 3rd grade. His explanation is that he knows that he was big plans for entrepreneurship that he knows he would not be a good parent. It’s funny because he says that me and his dad are awesome parents but he’s watched us pay for a nice home in a good school district and paying for braces, medical needs, food, college and everything it takes to be good parents. He says that both dad and I have given so much attention and love that he knows he can’t do it.

Jordan Peterson is probably right in that you have to have a hell of an interesting life for it to exceed parenthood. But it is so hard to become inspired as I don't have any role models when it comes to parenthood. All of my male friends that have children are miserable.

As a 29 year old dude, despite the changing global landscape and the problems that may exist in the future, I think deep down inside I do want kids and to have a family and impart my values onto my children to contribute towards a better society. Now the kicker is, so far, I haven't found a woman I'd want to be the mother of those children 😅

Never had kids. Been with my wife for 32 years and we decided not to. We have never regretted it. Quite simply, I dont like things that are loud, unpredictable and time consuming. That rules out kids. I enjoy my slow simple life.
